On This Day…
That’s another day under my belt with the visitors and I am now on the home stretch. We had so much on the agenda yesterday it was always going to be tough, but with a little overrun last night and an early start this morning, we should be back on track.
India looks like a place for the ‘summer’ holiday this year (November). Emma was the last of the children to say she’s given up on holidays with parents, so now Jo and I can look forward to some of the other places in the World kids just don’t want to go. We are also looking to spend their air fares on us and turn left when we get on the plane. I will post a few itineraries when we get a bit closer, but if anyone has advice on travel to India, that’d be great.
On this day…
- First recorded lottery in England (1566)
- First use of insulin to treat diabetes (1922)
- First recorded case of snowfall in LA (1949)
- The Open University awards it’s first degrees (1973)
- The World’s first surviving sextruplets are born (1973)
Hatches, matches, despatches…
- Harry Gordon Selfridge is born (1858)
- Carroll Shelby born (1923)
- Arthur Scargill born (1938)
- John Sessions born (1953)
- Bryan Robson born (1957)
- Thomas Hardy dies (1928)
- Sir Edmund Hillary dies (2008)
Quote of the Day:
I detest the man who hides on thing in the depths of his heart and speaks forth another.

Re India – I will get back to Jo but Taj Mahal in Agra is a must see; Delhi is ok but i would only spend a couple of days there personally and while your in that area Jaipur in the desert state of Rajastan is a pleasant place to visit – this is the so called “golden triangle”. I liked Bombay (now Mumbai) but it’s wealthier than the rest of India which makes it a little different. Two places I haven’t visited but ould love to are Udaipur (again in Rajastan) just to stay at the lake palace hotel and best of all Kerala in the south of India to travel on a boat through the “backwaters” around Cochin. A spot of beach could either be in Trivandrum (Kerala again) or Goa.
Indian odyssey is a company i found who do tailormade trips to India and Abercrombie & Kent also specialise.
Hope that helps

Thanks, you’ve been very quite, I presumed you had already gone to the Maldives! (All this exotic travel we’re doing).
We have a few tours in and will post when we’re near a decision.
