On This Day…
I was nearly tempted to say I have done nothing today and had a great time but, I then realised I had in fact put about 300 screws in the plywood on the en-suite floor at 6 inch centres. That’s a lot of screws in a small space. So anyhow, apart from that we did nothing and it was great.
Best man, Murray and family came down and en-masse we went to Whitely and bought the suits for the wedding. Fortunately, us guys settle on stuff pretty quickly. Girls wanted to go and look at a few dozen other shops, in two or three different towns, before returning to the first one to buy the first one they saw. We cut out all the superfluous stuff and cut straight to the chase.
Once that was done we had most of the afternoon and evening to ourselves and that meant the competitiveness in us came out and we had to play a tennis tournament on the new cleaned court. Jo and I beat Murray and Sally, but Emma and Simon beat Murray and I before Jo and I watched Simon, his mum and brother, who came over later to play, while we ate strawberries and sipped champagne. How sophisticated. Where I went wrong, was returning to the court after three-quarters of a bottle of champagne, so Simon’s brother and I also lost to Simon and Emma in the last game of the night under the new floodlights. Ah well.
It was a very relaxing day and just a great change from what we have been doing for what seems like the previous years of our lives. Must do it more often.
On this day in history and last year…
